Come weave with us at Studio JUMI and dive into the art of weaving! Sketch your own textile samples by experimenting with color, material and texture on a four-shaft pattern loom.
This course is inspired by textile artists such as Anni Albers, Gunta Stölzl and Sheila Hicks, who combined the craft of hand-weaving with the language of modern art.
After a short introduction, you will go straight to hands-on practice. Julia and Miriam will get you tuned in with the mechanics and rhythm of the loom, as well as help you transform your ideas into litte handwoven sketches. There will be five different pattern looms for you to try out and experiment with.
During this 4-hour course you will get an art-based and practice-led approach to hand-weaving. At the end of the class all participants will get to take home their textile design sketches.

In this weekend workshop, we introduce you to the creative process of making a handwoven textile. Over 2 consecutive days, you will make a set of up to four table napkins that you will have designed and woven from start to finish .
On the 1. Day you will sketch out your ideas, pick your color theme and draw out your final design. There will be four prepared looms to choose from, one for each participant, allowing a variety of weaving patterns. After a seasonal lunch together, we will help you get set up at your loom. You’ll begin weaving your first napkin and make some final adjustments in your design.
On the 2. day you will spend the entire day weaving and tune into the beautiful rhythm of the loom. Julia and Miriam will be there to help you perfect your weaving skills. They will also provide you with coffee, tea and snacks during a short break. In the afternoon, you will finish weaving your napkins, take them off the loom and sew up the seams.
Your unique handwoven napkins will make the perfect gift or a special addition for your own dinner party.
